This Chinese American Military Exhibition celebrates the military service of Chinese Americans from the Civil War to Afghanistan. Chinatown To Battleground exhibit features over 200 personal military artifacts from Montgomery Hom’s collection along with custom designed banners and multimedia elements. These showcase Chinese Americans who served in every theater of war and in every branch of the armed forces. Designed and deployed by Montgomery Hom and Ron Chan, Co-Founders of the Chinese American GI Project the exhibit is sponsored by the American Legion Cathay Post 384, the Chinese Historical Society Of America (CHSA) the Chinese American Citizens Alliance

The Chinatown to Battleground exhibit, will be deployed later in a nationwide roadshow as a source of pride for the Chinese American community and its veterans The exhibit makes its Silicon Valley/ South Bay debut during summer 2022 and is sponsored by the Chinese Historical Cultural Project (CHCP) / Chinese American Historical Museum (CAHM). CHCP’s film and oral history project, War and Remembrance are part of the exhibit.

We want to recognize Chinese Americans as part of the fabric of America and highlight our military service accomplishments and patriotism. This exhibition integrates well with our film project and provides great synergies in building a better museum experience for our members and visitors. It is a great addition to CHCP’s recognition of Chinese American contributions to medicine, science, engineering and business.”

A concurrent exhibit, May 1 – May 9, 2022, Friday–Monday. on board the USS Hornet, Sea and Space Museum features elements of the exhibition for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month. The Chinese American Veterans exhibit joins programs from the Japanese and Filipino American Veterans community. The Chinese American GI Project (CAGIP) was created in 2019 by Montgomery Hom and Ron Chan to promote and preserve this unique portion of America’s untold history. Their mission is to ensure that Chinese American military service is not forgotten, ignored or silent. In 2021 CAGIP published the book Fighting On All FrontsProfiles Of WWII Chinese Americans From The Golden State.
